PCT Workshop: The Role of Taxation in Achieving Gender Equality
Please join us for the PCT Workshop on “The Role of Taxation in Achieving Gender Equality” where experts from the PCT Partners, governments, think tanks, academia, and civil society will discuss how tax policy and tax and customs administrations can affect gender equality, especially in the context of COVID-19 pandemic, explore advances in data collection and methodology and delve into the possibility of incorporating gender equality initiatives in tax reforms. French & Spanish simultaneous interpretation will be available.

A country’s tax policy and administration can promote the achievement of gender equality goals by altering socio-economic characteristics of the society, such as the gender pay gap, and changing behaviors, such as participation in the workforce, consumption, and investment. A robust tax system can generate additional funds for programs designed to improve women’s and men’s welfare. However, the recent economic shock of the COVID-19 pandemic and the consequent decline in tax revenues have widened the gap between domestic resources of countries and funds required to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which include gender equality and the reduction of poverty. Recent studies by Platform Partners’ recognize that women have suffered more by the COVID-19 pandemic. As a fallout of the pandemic, decades of progress in closing the gender equality gaps may be reversed.
